Father Sarmiento Route

Walking Experience | Spiritual Journey

Leaving Vigo, we begin our pilgrimage with the first destination being Redondela. We continue towards Pontevedra, where we begin part of the route that Friar Martín Sarmiento took in 1745 through the O Salnés region.

On the third day, we start near the church of the Virgin Pilgrim to walk along the coast through a region full of history and beautiful landscapes—the best Galicia has to offer.

We pass by the monastery of Poio, through Combarro, to Sanxenxo, following this coastline carved by coves and monuments until Cambados and Vilanova de Arousa, where we carry out the "translatio" by boat along the River Ulla.

We travel up the river, passing the "Torres de Oeste" in Catoira until we reach Pontecesures and Padrón. In the end, already on the Portuguese Way, the Obradoiro square welcomes us before we enter the cathedral near the apostle's tomb.
