Ibn Maruán gave his name to Marvão and, at the beginning of Autumn, alongside Badajoz, we celebrate the memory of the foundation of this citadel atop the Sapoio mountain range with a major historical recreation event, “Al Mossassa”. On this route we will discover all the history and surrounding landscape of Marvão, ending the walk between the walls to celebrate these days.

We begin our walk with a visit to the Roman city of Ammaia. We continue along the ash tree tunnel in São Salvador da Aramenha to “Petiscos da Olga” for an Alentejo snack before discovering the Roman kilns and lime burners of Escusa.
We advance via the Roman bridge over the Ribeira das Trutas stream until we reach Portagem, where we cross the Sever River next to the river beach, via the medieval bridge that gave the locality its name.
We begin our ascent up the medieval stone pathway to Marvão, which we explore, and where we will take part in Al Mossassa, bringing our itinerary to a close with a celebratory toast.
