Marvão - Chestnut Fair

We start our walk in Portagem, where we cross the River Sever by the river beach, over the medieval bridge that gave the village its name.

We head towards the Roman city of Ammaia to visit the museum and the latest archaeological excavations.

We continue through the ash tree tunnel of São Salvador da Aramenha to “Petiscos da Olga” for an Alentejo snack, before discovering the Roman lime kilns of Escusa and returning to Portagem.

Taking transport up to Marvão, we explore the citadel and finish our hike at the top of the castle.

Our tour concludes at the Chestnut Fair with a toast of jeropiga (traditional fortified wine) and roasted chestnuts.
