We begin with a mystery: tradition says that the name Mogofores derives from the witch Moga, a legendary figure who inhabited these lands. Another story refers to the Arab occupation and the ancient names Magfur and Morogos.
The roman road, the Antonine Itinerary XVI from Olisipo (Lisbon) to Bracara Augusta (Braga), passed nearby, which gave more importance to these lands and the settlement of the nobility who left their legacy here, and where we will appreciate the art of heraldry on the facades of the buildings and palaces.
Tradition and faith are also pillars of this community. In 1598, ravaged by the plague, a promise was made for an annual pilgrimage to Our Lady of Peace, in the place called Beco, 35km away, and which has remained alive for more than four centuries.
We also visited the sanctuary of Nª Sr.ª Auxiliadora and went in search of the Pintos chapel in the parish church, where a nobleman and a bishop are buried.
