Mogofores, Crests Route

We begin with a mystery: tradition says that the name Mogofores derives from the witch Moga, a legendary figure who inhabited these lands. Another story points us to the Arab occupation and the former designations of Magfur and Morogos.

Nearby ran the Roman road, the Antonine Itinerary XVI from Olisipo (Lisbon) to Bracara Augusta (Braga), which brought greater importance to these lands and the settlement of the nobility who left their legacy here, allowing us to appreciate the art of heraldry on the facades of buildings and manor houses.

Tradition and faith are also pillars of this community. In 1598, plagued by the pestilence, a vow was made for an annual pilgrimage to Our Lady of Peace, in the place of Beco, 35 km away, which has remained alive for over four centuries.

We also visit the sanctuary of Our Lady Help of Christians and search, in the parish church, for the Pinto Chapel where a nobleman and a bishop rest.
